The main benefit of online learning is that you can work whenever and wherever suits you. Studying with Scottish Highers Online allows you to fit your learning around your lifestyle: work, family, hobbies etc. To achieve success in the Scottish National Qualification exams, we recommend a study commitment of 6 hours per week per qualification. However, it is up to you how you manage this time.
The course content is available entirely online. Scottish Highers Online courses are designed with flexibility in mind. Lessons are available to access as and when it suits you and you are encouraged to work througheach at your own pace.
Deadlines are provided for each Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) to help you plan your time effectively. Each unit of study is divided intomanageable sub-sections to allow you to focus and build on specific skills and tasks Lessons are structured to allow you to practise and self-check each skill or technique before attempting the TMA and awaiting feedback and guidance from your tutor.
The recommended study time is specific to each course.
Although there are no timetabled classes to commit to, there will be certain dates you need to put in your diary and be available for, e.g. prelims and SQA exams. You will be given notice of these dates in advance so you can plan ahead. Subject tutors will also offer a series of virtual classes throughout the year. However, these will be recorded and made available to those who cannot attend.
Each course is structured into units of study. Each unit of study contains a series of lessons, self-assessed practice activities and tutor marked assignments. The purpose of the tutor marked assignments is to provide you with an opportunity to receive feedback from your tutor on your learning so far and support and guidance to help you improve.
There are end of unit deadlines provided to help you effectively plan your studies and stay on track. Some are for guidance only; others (such as the externally marked course assignments) are marked in bold and must be adhered to.
Tutor Marked Assignments which can be accessed and completed online through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), or downloaded for offline use.
TMAs provide an opportunity to test your understanding and receive feedback and guidance.
